Ivanovic became the first-ever Serbian (male or female) to be the No 1 ranked tennis player in the world when she entered the French Open final, and capped off the occasion wonderfully by defeating Russia's Dinara Safina in the title clash at Roland Garros. As could be expected, Ivanovic was given a rousing welcome by thousand sof fans at the Belgrade City Hall. Overwhelmed by the reception, the No 1-ranked woman tennis player in the world said the welcome ceremony in Belgrade was a "very special moment" and "something I will remember all my life."
Ivanovic, who is also studying finance at a Belgrade university in her spare time, first caught the eye of the tennis world in 2004 and in the last four years has moved up the rankings rapidly. Her off-court hobbies include shopping, watching movies and playing Sudoku, according to Wikipedia. Ivanovic joins men's World No 3 Novak Djokovic, who won the Australian Open earlier this year, as the only two Serbians to have won Grand Slam titles.
